GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE JOB:  

 

Equipment designed by Bigelow-Liptak has technical aspects requiring skill, knowledge, and experience in the areas of process heating, process control & automation, and mechanical, and electrical engineering. The major equipment includes pressure vessels, hot gas generators, combustion equipment, and fuel handling systems.  Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards is required to design and commission the equipment. This is a position that interfaces with the end user/client, so the “field start-up” experience is an asset.

 

THE MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES OF THIS POSITION INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO THE FOLLOWING:

  • Performs process design and technical calculations required for the design and specifications of equipment proposed and sold by the division.
  • Provide support in the preparation of the budgetary and firm price proposals for the equipment and services of the division.
  • Experience in the development of Process and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
  • Experience in reviewing and evaluating customers’ specifications and selecting Process and Instrumentation related equipment.
  • Reviews and approves drawings and procurement requisitions for technical accuracy and economic impact.
  • Provides technical assistance, consulting, and start-up services for installations, including erection supervision for burners, gas coolers, and absorption equipment.
  • Provide support to the Engineering Manager and Design Team in all aspects of the technical scope of work as requested
  • Provide support to other Corporate Divisions and must be willing to travel as required

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Industrial engineering.  At least 2 to 5 years of experience in Process Engineering is required. P. Eng Designation is desirable.

 

EQUIPMENT USED: 

Personal computer, telephone, fax, copier, dictation equipment, automobile, PDA.

1-2 years

 

JOB DEMANDS: 

The position requires being able to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time. Also required is the ability to move about both inside an office environment in order to access files, computers, and office machinery; and outside and around a construction jobsite to access areas requiring observation/repairs/construction. Frequent communication is necessary with other staff and customers to relay accurate and timely information. Required to discern potential safety situations. Occasionally needs to ascend/descend ladders, temporary stair towers, platforms, and scaffolding. Occasionally moves in a bent position to enter and exit vessels and may need to move equipment/tools in/out of a vessel. Sales forecasting and presentations are necessary along with meeting deadlines. Overtime may be required. Personal protective equipment must be used as required.  Extensive travel by auto and public transportation required.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

Employee will normally be working in an office environment; however, the employee will occasionally be required to take a field assignment with exposure to noise, dust, cold, heat, odors, etc.  Personal protective equipment must be used as required.  Extensive travel by auto and public transportation is required.

 

ACCOUNTABILITIES: 

Responsible for timely and accurate completion of all assigned duties, both individual and departmental.

 

LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:

P.Eng License is desirable
